1-12-11: Counting on Bikes

With temperatures in the 30s and snow on the ground, climbing on a bike for your morning commute might sound dreadful. But some hearty souls are doing just that. And–yesterday, today, and tomorrow–25 other hearty souls are out there counting these bicycle commuters, for Baltimore’s first Winter Bike Traffic Count. This will help city planners figure out where more bike facilities are needed.
Bruce Wallace joined one of the bike traffic counters yesterday. Here’s his report.

My commute doesn’t take me past any of the counting stations, but I was out there this morning. Wasn’t too bad. Lined gloves, wool socks and a wind-proof shell take care of most of the cold.
